Serowe West seat falls vacant

Serowe West Parliamentary Seat has been declared vacant.
This is according to a Government Notice No. 218 of 2023 published in the Extraordinary Government Gazette of April 21, from the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Phandu Skelemani.
“It is hereby declared and made known to all whom it may concern that the seat of the Member of Parliament for the Constituency of Serowe West has become vacant in terms of section 68 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Botswana as read with Standing Order 16.2 of the National Assembly of Botswana,” reads the notice.
The notice further says Mr Tshekedi Khama, who was elected as Member of Parliament for Serowe West in the past general election in 2019, has been absent from the sittings of the National Assembly starting from November last year until April this year.
“Honourable Tshekedi Khama has been absent from the National Assembly for two consecutive meetings thus far in the session which started in November 2022 and did not have written leave from the Speaker for such absence.
The second consecutive meeting of the Assembly adjourned sine die on April 14, 2023,” says Speaker of the National Assembly in the notice. ends
