ZAMCOM Council of Ministers meets in Kasane

18 Apr 2023

Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila is scheduled to host the Zambezi Riparian Sates for the council of ministers meeting in Kasane on April 27.

A press release from the ministry says Dr Mzwinila, who is the current Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM) chairperson will, together with his counterparts, use the meeting to take stock of what the Watercourse Organisation has achieved after the establishment of its permanent secretariat.

The council of ministers’ meeting is held annually to, among other things, adopt and provide policy guidance, approve work plans and budget as recommended by the Zambezi Technical Committee.

Zambezi Watercourse Commission is an intergovernmental organisation set up through the ZAMCOM Agreement by eight riparian states sharing the Zambezi River Basin, which include Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The organisation promotes and coordinates cooperative management and development of the Zambezi Watercourse in a sustainable and climate resilient manner.

Dr Mzwinila assumed ZAMCOM chairmanship at the ninth council of ministers meeting held on April 28 last year.

Botswana is expected to hand over the chairmanship to the current deputy chairperson, Mozambique at the end of the meeting. ENDS
