Dinkwetse Mafikeng (41) and Boipelo Temetu (59) who are facing two charges of stealing stock, were recently remanded in custody pending police investigations.

Hukuntsi Magistrate, Ms Galaletsang Ramokate ordered Mafikeng and Temetu, both residing in Hukuntsi,  to be remanded as the matter was still fresh. She also said  the court reporter was not available therefore, more details pertaining to their case would be heard in the next mention.

The facts of the matter are that on December 22 at Lokgwabe village, the duo acting jointly, with a common purpose without claim of right, stole 15 goats being the property of Kealeboga Molemele and transported them to Motokwe in the Kweneng District.

The stolen goats, valued at P22 00, were identified by their sekei earmarks and colour of their skins. The court heard that only seven goats valued at P11 000 were recovered.

In the second count it is reported that, the two accused persons on unconfirmed date at Lokgwabe acting jointly with a common purpose without claim of right stole five goats being the property of Mosimanegape Molemele and transported them to Motokwe.

It is reported that the five goats were valued at P8000 and only three were recovered.

Appearing for the state, Public Prosecutor Sergeant Qinisio Ncube told the court that they arraigned the two accused persons, who were arrested on March 30, so that they could be remanded, while investigations continue. Meanwhile, Mafikeng pleaded with the court to release him, promising not to interfere with investigations. He said he had also cooperated, since investigations were launched and that he would avail himself whenever summoned. He also pleaded with the court to release him as he had left his daughter alone at home.

Reiterating that they had been cooperating with investigating officers, Temetu said it was not befitting for them to be remanded.

The accused persons will appear for mention on April 17.  ENDS
