Isaac Kgosi charged with single count of corruption

29 Mar 2023

Former director of Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS) was today (Wednesday) arraigned before the High Court, where he was charged with a single count of corruption.

According to the charge sheet, Kgosi on or about July 31, 2009 indirectly accepted for himself the sum of more than P687 000 from Vlatacom DOO, a valuable consideration for having used his influence in recommending that Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) sanction a direct appointment of the company.

The appointment, according to the charge sheet, was in relation to providing Countrywide Communication Infrastructure, Supply of Electronics ID card production system and supply and installation of AFIS system to DIS.

Prosecutor Khumoetsile Tirelo had presented a filed third volume of the said corruption case before court, thus confirming the reception of such with the respondent’s party. “We had presented court with the third volume yesterday and we are of the idea that the respondent has received the file along with the court,” said Ms Tirelo.

Kgosi has reserved his plea pertaining to the charge before him, but he had requested the court to give him time to discuss the matter with his lawyer.
“I can’t take a plea right now because I have just been served with the charge sheet and have not gone through or seen the said third volume document that was served yesterday. Therefore I would like to discuss the matter with my lawyer before anything else,” said Kgosi.

He will appear again before the High Court on August 24. Ends
