09 Mar 2023

Bakwena women on Wednesday turned up in large droves to celebrate the birthday of Mohumagadi Mma Tumagole to honour her for the positive role she has played as Mma Kgosi.

Although Ms Peggy Sechele’s birthday was on January 4, the royal family in conjunction with office of Molepolole South MP, opted to celebrate her birthday on International Women’s Day, March 8.

She was showered with presents from MP for Molepolole South, who is also Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng, ABSA Bank, churches and morafe.

Mr Morwaeng urged Bakwena to rally behind their kgosi and give him the respect he deserved.

He said they fully appreciated mohumagadi for the vital role she played in the development of her people, saying she performed her duties diligently, hence their appreciation.

The minister said upon being elected to the office in 2019, he made a decision to closely work with the royal family and all magosi in his constituency to fully engage them on his development agenda, which included fighting evils engulfing the Molepolole community.

He said he had worked with Mma Tumagole, hence they decided to make a birthday bash for her,  few weeks after Kgosi Kgari III celebrated his.

Mma Tumagole has been offered a scholarship to undertake PhD in Medical Microbiology in the UK and Minister Morwaeng promised her a flight ticket to celebrate International Women’s Day again next year, depending on her academic schedule.

The minister has meanwhile appealed to Bakwena to promote the name of their village, saying they were liable for creating a good image about their village.

“Molepolole has been in the news mainly for wrong reasons, and it is time for a change,” MP Morwaeng said.

A member of the family, Kgosi Sarah Sechele further said they loved their in-law and wanted her to feel the love and the appreciation they had for her.

She further said through their gifts, they were promoting the spirit of giving.

Echoing the sentiments as the minister, she said time was ripe for the villagers to reclaim their position and produce quality girls the nation had ever seen.

For her part, Mma Tumagole, who has been married for 15 years, expressed happiness, saying however that she wished her mother-in-law was alive to witness the amount of love surrounding her.

“She loved me so much,” she said, adding that she was emotional because of the love and support she had received ever since she got married.

Her mother graced the event and saw that her daughter was fully loved.

She also thanked the government for giving women equal opportunities as men, saying this meant that they too could do and achieve anything they wanted without hindrances.

Mma Tumagole appealed to the community to continue with development projects and other events such as Dithubaruba during her four years of absence while on an academic journey. Ends
