Ghanzi Magistrate, Ms Keneilwe Thebeetsile ordered that 25-year-old Tshabu Kaxwe of D’kar, who was arraigned for murder be remanded in custody.
Kaxwe, who appeared before the magistrate on Monday, will appear again on March 20 in connection with the death of Sianang Sedumago.
Earlier, the prosecutor in this matter, Sub-inspector Shathiso Ngebani of Botswana Police had made an application that the accused be remanded in custody.
Sub-iinspector Ngebani, however, said investigating officer who was to advance reasons why the accused should be denied bail, had gone to hospital for medical reasons. He also advanced that the accused had another criminal case before the court, in which he was granted bail.
In an interview, Ghanzi Police Station commander, Superintendent Modiro Lekone said Kaxwe was arrested on March 3 following the discovery of footprint from where the deceased was found leading to the accused place.
He said suspicions are that the deceased was raped before or after being killed, and that the deceased may have been strangled as there were no visible physical injuries.
The deceased’s body, he said, was awaiting post mortem, while investigations are ongoing. ENDS
