Hit and run accident in Ramotswa fatal

Ramotswa Police are appealing to members of the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the driver car that is suspected to have been involved in a hit and run incident, leaving a 32-year-old man dedd.

The incident took place on Sunday around 1am before a four-way junction near Lesetlhana Primary School.

Ramotswa Police station commander, Superintendent Keoagile Tau said in an interview that the deceased was found lying at the scene of the accident with grievous injuries, after being alerted of the incident by members of the community, who reported hearing a loud banging sound suspected to be of a car hitting something.

Supt Tau on arrival at the scene the deceased was found lying on the ground, but there was no car that could have hit him.

“We appeal to whoever has any information that could be useful in the investigation to come forward and present it to the police,” he said.

Supt Tau also urged members of the public to be alert when walking around at night and where possible avoid such late night movement.

Supt Tau has further advised drivers to be cautious to avoid accident and accordingly report such incidents to the police.

Meanwhile Botswana Police Service is offering a reward of P25 000 to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of suspects involved in the murder of Mr Alfred Modisaotsile Makete.

Mr Makete was a police officer stationed at Ramotswa and was found dead along Phatana Road in Ramotswa on December 4, 2022.

Anyone with information about the suspects should contact Ramotswa Police Station on 5391700/ 5390217 or 999 or contact the nearest police station.

In addition, Supt Tau has raised a concern on the use of illicit drugs such as motokwane dagga in his policing area.  

“The youth aged between 20 and 34 years are involved in the use of drugs to an extent of ploughing motokwane in their backyards for business purposes,” said Supt Tau.

He said the use of drugs was a criminal offence and equally hazardous to one’s health as it had the potential to cause mental health illnesses. ENDs
