Selebi Phikwe Police have arrested two people for unlawful possession of dagga.
Station Commander, Superintendent Nicholas Kadiatla confirmed in an interview that the two, a 36-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were arrested at their rented house in Sesame Ward in Selebi Phikwe on February 9 following a tip off.
Supt Kadiatla said 17 small plastic packets, two medium plastic bags and 59 cigarette-like packets believed to be containing dagga were found in the house as well as cash amounting to P345.
He said some of the stuff was retrieved from their vehicle, adding all the packets, including the vehicle belonging to the couple, had been confiscated while investigations continued.
He said the two might be charged for unlawful dealing in habit forming drugs, an offence which carried a maximum sentence of not less than 15 years imprisonment or a fine of not more than P1 million.
Supt Kadiatla urged the community to desist from dealing in dagga and drugs because they were not only illegal but also had a bad effect on the community.
He said some of the crimes committed in the country were done under the influence of drugs. Ends
