School heads in the northern region have been encouraged to enforce factors that promote effective learning.
Speaking during a school heads meeting in Francistown on Tuesday, the Regional Education Director - North East Region, Mr Labane Mokgosi advised the regional school heads to change mind-set.
He challenged them to map out a way to optimally utilise all available resources, thorough digitalisation as well as value chain.
He said in the new academic year, students had been equipped with expensive gadgets, which required school leadership to accommodate them in the teaching and learning environment.
Mr Mokgosi said if school heads do not come together in working towards achieving good results throughout all the schools, then the region would fail.
He stressed that school leadership should unite to achieve excellent initiatives and enhance learning.
“A conducive environment begins with a good management that identifies challenges in order to work on tackling them,” he added.
He said even though it was healthy for schools to compete, the schools should work together to take the region to levels.
Mr Mokgosi reiterated that mind-set change could improve all aspects of life for learners from primary to senior secondary.
“With right attitude, behaviour and mind-set, we can form a solid foundation for better results,” he said.
Mr Mokgosi tasked the leaders to ensure that learners took care of textbooks.
He said the government spent a lot of money on school supplies and infrastructure, hence the need for monitoring and ensuring proper use and care.
“Let us ensure that everything is taken care of,” he added.
Meanwhile, he acknowledged improvement of Matsiloje Community Junior Secondary School results from 26 percent to 36 percent in A, B, C pass rate.
Some school heads pleaded with the director to review the criteria used in admission of learners to secondary level.
Francistown Sub-Region Chief Education Officer, Mr Boy Olekantse said secondary school qualified teachers should be retooled for primary schools.
Mr Olekantse also discouraged school heads from opting for highfliers only believing that their good grades would improve the schools performance, to the detriment of other students in their admissions.
He said every learner should be recognised and given the opportunity to attend and excell at any school. BOPA
