A 17-year-old boy is assisting police with investigations following a shooting incident which claimed the life of his 24-year-old sister at Jwaneng's Unit 5 location on Tuesday evening.

In an interview, the station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti said preliminary investigations indicate that the boy was helping his uncle to offload various items from his vehicle, which included a shotgun, around 830pm. It is reported that the gun accidentally shot at the sister, who was certified dead upon arrival at Jwaneng Mine Hospital.

“It was reported that the boy was assisting his uncle to offload things from the vehicle in the evening. One of the items was the shotgun, which we are told went off and accidentally short at the sister inside the living room,” he said.

He noted that the investigations would determine the nature of the charge. Ends
