Suspects arrested for copper cable theft

Police in Gaborone have arrested 11 Batswana men aged between 24 and 40, associated with theft and vandalism of Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) infrastructure.
A press release from Botswana Police Service (BPS) states that three of the suspects were arrested early in the morning on Monday at Gaborone West Industrial Site in possession of copper cables.
The release further states that following the arrest, police extended investigations leading to the arrest of eight others, who are also suspected to be part of the syndicate.
In a similar incident, the release says police in Mochudi are investigating a case in which a 30-year-old man from Tutume was electrocuted by a power cable near Bela Bela area last week Friday.
“The victim and others, not yet known, attempted to vandalise a high voltage power cables and is currently hospitalised with serious injuries,” states the release.
BPS continues to register reports of serious injuries and loss of lives from theft and vandalism of power supply infrastructure,” the press release states.
BPS Appeals to members of the public to report any acts of suspicious theft or vandalism of BPC infrastructure to the nearest police station or BPC Toll free number 0800600147. Ends
