31 Jan 2023

Murder accused, Gabalape Matsime has requested to be  furnished with the records of his rejected bail application in order to appeal the decision to the High Court.

Matsime (32) of Woodhall Lobatse, is facing a single count of murdering his girlfriend, Onkemetse Motiki who was a police officer at Broadhurst Police Station.

He told Broadhurst court Magistrate Ms Goratile Moremi-Ramakoloi on Monday that he had resolved to appeal to the High Court, the decision to deny him bail.

“I want to be furnished with the ruling so that I appeal to the High Court,” he said.

Matsime was denied bail by Magistrate Ms Atlanang Manchwe on January 17, after the court found that he had propensity to commit crime while on bail and had previously failed to honour bail conditions hence he was classified a flight risk.

The accused told court of his intention to appeal after the prosecutor, Sub Inspector Kenneth Ramere of Botswana Police Service told the court that investigations into the matter were ongoing and he requested that the accused’s remand warrant be extended.

Sub Inspector Ramere said the investigation team was yet to receive the deceased’s postmortem report, record affidavits statements from forensic laboratory officials and compile a crime scene photo album.

Matsime is alleged to have murdered Motiki on or about 30 December 2022 at Tsholofelo location in Gaborone.

He will appear again for status hearing on February 13. Ends
