Two South African citizens, William Maphoto aged 30 and Mokgadi Matlou, 42, appeared before Village Magistrate Court on January 25 for unlawful possession of arms and ammunitions.

A press release from Botswana Police Service says the two men were arrested on January 22 and January 23 in Gaborone and Tlokweng respectively.

The release says the arrest follows an earlier report that the law enforcement officers in Gaborone embarked on a manhunt of five armed suspicious characters believed to be foreign nationals, following a shoot-out between six men and law enforcement officers in Block 8.

Suspects will reappear in court on February 9.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.

“Anyone with information of the whereabouts of the suspects should contact Sir Seretse Khama Airport Police Station on telephone number 390 9935, emergency number 999 or the nearest Police Station,” reads the press release. ENDS
