Police in Serowe are investigating an incident in which a 35-year-old man of Sesoma ward committed suicide immediately after his nephew’s burial over the weekend.
Serowe police acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Bopelo Ntatiwa, said in an interview that upon receiving the report, police rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased still hanging from a tree.
“The incident was reported to us on Sunday around 10 o’clock in the morning.”
Asp Ntatiwa said while people were still gathered in the yard after returning from the cemetery, the deceased disappeared without notice and was later found hanging from a tree.
Asp Ntatiwa pleaded with the public to seek help from professional counsellors when faced with difficulties as suicide was never a panacea for any problem. He also urged people to always go to church as that could be platform to soothe their souls.
The acting Serowe police chief said investigations on what could have led to the deceased committing suicide were still in progress.
In other news, Asp Ntatiwa said of late, his policing area had been experiencing a high rate of copper cable theft. He indicated that ever since the beginning of the year, five cases regarding the issue had been reported.
He appealed to members of the public to be on the lookout for people selling copper cables and always report suspicious activities to the police. ends
