Ministry of Health has, on Monday, received two consignments of medications that government had procured.
A Tuesday press release from the ministry says medications that arrived include those for such conditions as hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes, mental diseases, skin diseases, asthma, scabies and malaria, among others.
The release says the consignment also includes painkillers, iron supplements, oral contraceptives, antibiotics and other categories of essential medications that have been in short supply in the country.
Also, it says, on January 20, the ministry received multitudes of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) batches, which are used to treat and prevent dehydration and related diarrheal illnesses while the next consignment was expected to be delivered in the country by the end of the week.
It further says the medications that have already been delivered will be distributed among all health facilities across the country by the end of next week.
“The ministry believes that with these deliveries, the current medication shortage in the country will begin to subside,” the release says.
Arrival of medications in the country comes shortly after the health minister, Dr Edwin Dikoloti, briefed the media about the expected deliveries on January 16. ENDS
