A 31-year- old man died following a fight with another inmate at Maun Prison.

Botswana Prison Service states in a press release that a brawl ensued between the two inmates on Sunday resulting in one inmate being seriously injured. The injured inmate was rushed to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital where he died on Monday.

The release says the deceased, Michael Phuti, was a Zimbabwe national but was residing in Tutume at Magapatona ward while the suspect Osego Mosetlhane  (37) was from Ghanzi.

“Details on the circumstances leading to the incident have not been established as investigations are still ongoing, “ says the release.

The release says despite the unfortunate incident, Botswana Prison Services remains committed to ensuring safe custodial care for offenders under its care and correction through effective rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for the protection of the society. Ends
