Murder accused to appear January 17

05 Jan 2023

Broadhurst Magistrate Court has remanded in custody, Gabalape Matsime (32) who is charged with murder of Ms Onkemetse Motiki (36), a female police officer.

Matsime of Woodhall One in Lobatse appeared before Principal Magistrate, Ms Florah Moremi–Ramakoloi on Wednesday.

He was arrested after the deceased was found dead after being stabbed with a sharp object at Tsholofelo location in Gaborone on December 30, 2022.

Pleading for accused person’s further remand in custody, Sub Inspector Kenneth Ramere of Broadhurst Police station informed the court that investigations were at an initial stage and the investigating team had so far recorded statement of four potential state witnesses.

“We are anticipating to interview three or more potential witnesses. The deceased’s two cellphone and bank card were still missing and therefore we do not want the possibility of the accused person interfering with investigations,” he said.

Sub Inspector Ramere said the accused person had another pending case before Lobatse Magistrate Court of grievous bodily harm and therefore the prosecution was yet to establish if he was a candidate for bail.
Plea has been reserved in the matter and the accused person has hinted that he will engage an attorney.

The accused will appear for mention on January 17 and the investigating officer is expected to update the court on progress of the investigations. ENDS
