Mopipi clinic ready for handover
12 Dec 2022
Mopipi’s newly constructed clinic, which was financed by the World Group of Companies, is expected to be handed over soon.
Representative of the contractor, Triple F, Ms Janet Moipolai confirmed Saturday that the project was complete and that the company would be vacating the site today.
This emerged during a tour of the facility by Assistant Minister of Health Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe aimed at establishing its readiness for occupancy and operation.
Mr Lelatisitswe said he wanted to check if all the necessary services and materials required for the clinic to kick-start operations had been provided.
Briefing the assistant minister, district officer development, Ms Patience Fanikiso, stated that the clinic was 98 per cent complete while a 100-metre access road constructed by Boteti Sub-district Council stood at 99 per cent completion.
She said finishing touches and clearing would be attended to by end of December.
The project, which commenced in April, employed a total of 32 workers during the construction phase.
Regional health coordinator Ms Gasebotho Kedikilwe said the workmanship was satisfactory.
She said water connection had been undertaken at a cost of P45 000, electricity, P198 000 and water backup, P84 000.
Furniture, she said, had already been procured while Internet connection was delayed.
Efforts were underway to procure a standby generator, she said.
Ms Kedikilwe said since the facility was to be a 24-hour operation, a request had been made for four general nurses to augment the existing staff.
Senior assistant council secretary, Mr Christopher Maramba said final inspection would be carried out to be followed by defects and liability period of six months.
Councillor Ofentse Gabalathane of Mopipi commended the ministry for accommodating the project and incorporating it in its schedule though it was not in the plan.
He requested the ministry to increase the clinic’s staff complement.
Councillor Gabalathane said one doctor was not enough for servicing Mopipi, Mokobaxane and Kedia clinics and therefore requested one more.
In response, Mr Lelatisitswe pointed out that there was a shortage of doctors countrywide. BOPA
