US-Africa leaders summit highlight of Masisis US visit

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has left for New York, the United States on a private visit to be followed  by the US-Africa leaders summit scheduled for December 13-15 in Washington DC.

A Ministry for State President press release states that the summit, hosted by US President Joseph Biden, will bring together Africa’s heads of state and government as well as private sector, diaspora and civil society leaders to discuss US-Africa relations and cooperation on shared global priorities. 

It will deliberate on issues of peace, security and good governance, food security, economic engagement, global health security and youth leadership, says the release.

Other summit related activities are a ministerial meeting on the African Growth and Opportunity Act, the US-Africa Business Forum which will explore ways of increasing US engagement with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Diaspora Young Leaders Forum. 

The summit, which will be the second after the 2014 one, is expected to demonstrate the US’ commitment to Africa. 

President Masisi will travel to Houson, Texas for further official engagements after the summit.

The President, First Lady Neo and delegation are expected back home on December 20. Ends
