Three Botswana Railways crew members yesterday lost their lives after the train they were in collided with a truck at the Phakalane junction railway cross.

Speaking in an interview, police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube, confirmed that the accident claimed the lives of two trainees and an instructor.

He said the locomotive operator and the truck driver escaped with minor injuries. He said the train was coming from the south going to the north while the truck was coming from Phakalane.

Assistant Commissioner Motube said the accident caused traffic congestion that led to diversion of vehicles  from the north side to Mmamashia road and those coming from Gaborone to Glen valley road.

He urged the motorists to drive with caution especially that the festive season had begun. ends
