A 50-year old security guard of Mosinyi ward in Marobela has lost an ear at the hands of criminals.
It is reported that the incident happened in the wee hours of Monday morning at about 2 o’clock, when criminals attempted to rob Sebina Cross Roads complex.
Tutume Police Station Commander Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang told BOPA in an interview on Tuesday, that they received a report of the incident from another security guard, aged 53, who was on duty at a neighbouring company.
The security guard immediately contacted the police upon hearing the other guard shouting for help.
Superintendent Kgosiemang said the police responded swiftly to the report and upon their arrival, the criminals, who were still tampering with the alarm system, disappeared into the nearby bushes.
He said on searching the surrounding of the complex, the police found the victim, minus his left ear, with his hands and legs tied together.
He said they found a sharp object, which was used to cut off the victim’s ear, adding that the security guard also had bruises all over his body.
Supt. Kgosiemang said the victim was taken to Sebina clinic and was later referred to Tutume primary hospital where he is still admitted, and is in a stable condition.
He said the police could not find the victim’s ear at the time he was taken to the clinic, but it was found later in the day on Monday.
The station commander said preliminary investigations indicated that there were two suspects and appealed to members of the public to help the police with information which could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
In addition, he appealed to the business community to install Close Circuit Television (CCTV) or video surveillance in their premises.ENDS
