Good Hope police are investigating a hit and run incident which happened near the Mokgomane turnoff on Sunday evening. The police station traffic officer, Inspector Moses Gaboswele said the accident claimed the life of a 33-year-old man of Molapowabojang and that the assailants were still at large.
Mr Gaboswele said those who were with the deceased said they could not identify the vehicle as they were sleeping inside theirs which had run out of fuel.
The deceased died at Princess Marina Hospital on Monday.
Inspector Gaboswele appealed for information which could give them a lead to arrest the perpetrator.
He lamented that his policing area had many drunken driving cases.
This, he said could be because residents from Good Hope and nearby villages congregated at a night club in the village.
Inspector Gaboswele also expressed concerned about the high number of cases of people driving without driver’s license, saying they had so far registered over 54 cases compared to 33 registered last year.
Inspector Gaboswele also said they arrested a 38-year-old man of Kgoro for driving a motor vehicle whilst unfit.
He said the driver plunged into other vehicles which were parked at a wedding celebration. He said the driver failed a sobriety test.
He said fortunately there were no injuries and that the driver would be charged for driving a vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol.
As the festive season has already started, Inspector Gaboswelee urged drivers to desist from driving while drunk and advised pedestrians to be vigilant at all times. ENDS
