Pupils inclusion necessary - President
27 Oct 2022
Teachers have been advised to incorporate emerging crises or issues of concern in the curriculum in order to keep pupils abreast of happenings in their localities.
Interacting with teachers and learners at Senyawe Primary School on Wednesday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said schools in the area should have made the recent Foot and Mouth disease outbreak a curriculum activity.
The President said though the outbreak directly affected farmers, it also impacted learners because their parents or caregivers were cattle owners.
Some learners came from households that relied solely on cattle for survival, he pointed out.
President Masisi said having their source of livelihood taken away, to eradicate the disease, was going to affect not only the owners but their dependents.
Ultimately it affected the whole community thereby making it a community and national issue, he said.
The President said the school should be well informed of the state of affairs in the community.
He said sharing such information with learners would be impactful as young children absorbed and shared information easily.
Addressing a kgotla meeting earlier, President Masisi informed Senyawe residents that constituency funding would cease next financial year.
The funds would instead be used for constituency internal road projects, he said.
The President implored parents to encourage their children to come forth to undertake such projects.
He said it was disappointing that Batswana failed to take advantage of projects but continuously complained that nothing was being done.
President Masisi called for mindset change and the return to Batswana’s Ipelegeng roots, where they used to do things for themselves instead of relying solely on government.
Government, he said, was playing its part by creating a conducive environment and coming up with different initiatives to enable Batswana to do things for themselves. ENDS
