Khurakhura garden takes shape

The Khurakhura horticultural garden, which was established through the constituency community fund is said to be taking shape.
Briefing the Ghanzi North MP, Mr Johane Thiite recently, Ghanzi East assistant council secretary, Mr Gabobofane Mbwe said cultivation of the land was almost complete and that an irrigation system would be installed soon.
He said Flo-tek company was engaged to supply and install the irrigation system.
Mr Mbwe also said 11 people from Khurakhura had been hired to work at the garden and were undergoing training through the help of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Mr Mbwe said although the facility had been connected to the Botswana Power Corporation grid, there were plans to install a solar system to minimise running costs.
He said the irrigation system and sales bay would be connected to the solar system and that BPC electricity would be used as backup.
For his part, Mr Thiite commended government employees for implementing constituency community projects. He said their efforts would transform the lives of residents and encouraged them to continue the good work.
Ghanzi District Council chairperson, Mr Jeremiah Tibi was also impressed by the implementation of the constituency community project. He, however, advised that the community should be capacitated to exploit the benefits and opportunities that would arise due to the horticulture project. ENDs
