Mayor encourage community to take breasts cancer tests

Francistown deputy mayor, Mr Lesego Kwambala has appealed to Batswana to take regular cancer tests.
Speaking at the Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Francistown over the weekend, he advised the community to follow the simple instruction of touch, look and check, to examine their breasts.
Mr Kwambala advised those diagnosed with cancer to follow doctors’ orders and avoid the disease from spreading to other parts of the body.
Further, he said it was every individual responsibility of every totake their health seriosly..
He said support for those suffering from cancer was not enough and urged all to take responsibility. .
A cancer survivor, Ms Lebonye Gakologelwang said in 2020 when people were dying from COVID-19, she was diagnosed with cancer.
Before then, she said she went for yearly checkups.
“The results revealed that the lumps developing in my breasts were too big and had to be operated,” she said, adding that the cancer was at stage 2, which saw her going for chemotherapy.
Specially nominated Councilor, Modiri Lucas advised the organisers to include all Francistown wards and Greater Francistown in the campaign, so that education reached all.
Cllr Lucas said awareness should also reach schools and other government entities as well as hold kgotla meetings to educate communities.
He encouraged the private sector to join the race in the fight against breast cancer. ENDs
