Swaneng gives form 3s befitting send-off
11 Oct 2022
Boipelego Junior Secondary School learners have been advised to be deliberate in charting the path that they desire to follow in life.
This was said by motivational speaker and Development Studies teacher at Swaneng Hill School Mr Amos Masilo at a career fair held recently at the school.
Mr Masilo challenged the students to refine their journey by choosing subjects they would like to base their careers on at senior secondary school and make sure to perform exceptionally well on them.
“There is no easy way out, if you would like to achieve something, pursue it and you will manage” he said.
He further encouraged students to master the ability to rise above circumstances and challenged them to gather their arsenal and network with the right people.
A former student and former Student Representative Council (SRC) president and now a Form 4 student at Swaneng Hill, Thero Mpana was given the opportunity to give his younger brothers and sisters a word. He encouraged students to cut off all factors that could deter them from achieving academic excellence, pointing out further that they needed to channel all their energy and focus on their impending examinations.
Food Botswana representative Mr Ndlovu Ndlovu emphasised the need for the coming generations to help plug the food security gap by pursuing such subjects as agriculture, biology, physics and chemistry.
The subjects, he said would eventually be a passport to institutions of higher learning such as the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) where courses such as Food Science and Technology course are on offer.
“With COVID-19 having proven that Botswana is not yet food sufficient, there is need for us to encourage our younger ones to invest in agriculture,” he remarked.
Mr Ndlovu also encouraged them to work hard on their examinations to help Botswana raise its own crop of project developers and food engineers.
Serowe Brigade also reassured the students that their doors were open for them when they complete their junior certificate examinations.
Although they accept Junior Certificate holders, Mr Thato Lephodisa encouraged them to aim to complete their Botswana General Certificate in Secondary Education Examinations (BGCSE) to gain advantage over others.
He said like other tertiary education institutions, brigades present diverse opportunities that could help learners venture into different career paths.
On the one hand, Botswana Prisons Service and Botswana Police Service cautioned the students against finding themselves on the wrong side of town.
From Serowe prison, Assistant Superintendent, Philip Mokoto encouraged them to steer clear of finding themselves in conflict with the law as that could permanently change the course of their lives.
Assistant Superintendent Eric Dambe from the Botswana Police Service said those seeking to be absorbed into the police service should strive for excellence in their school work, saying the law enforcement agency now recruits personnel on the basis of academic excellence.
He too cautioned the students against violating the law, saying they should at all times strive to stay on the straight and narrow.
The career fair, held under the theme “My decisions today determine my future”, marked Boipelego Junior Secondary School’s official send-off of the 2022 class of Form 3s. Ends
