A newly registered safari company, Delta Eco Concerns has been commended for supporting Shorobe Baskets Co-operative.

The company contributed more than P25 000 towards fencing the facility, to improve safety and security as well make it more attractive to tourists. The co-operative is situated 30km north of Maun and displays quality products made from natural resources found in the area.

Speaking during the handing over of the project, Shorobe Development Committee chairperson, Mr Baleseng Gwanga praised the company for assisting the cooperative and said the fence would make it stand out.

Shorobe Baskets Co-operative chairperson, Ms Boipuso Nyoke said with the fence, security would be enhanced and that would motivate them to increase production.

She said prior, animals freely roamed the compound and destroyed structures.

Ms Nyoke also noted that the project was progressing well and they enjoyed support from Impact Fund Company which linked the travel industry with local company projects.

Delta Eco Concerns Company managing director, Kgosi Gokgathang Moalosi said there would be no more trespassing.

He explained that though the company was not yet operational, he and his partner, Mr Bruce Elfstrom from America saw it necessary to help the co-operative since it drove the implementation of Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) programme, which offered communities an opportunity to participate in tourism development and natural resource conservation and also aimed to achieve biodiversity conservation and rural development.

“Our company’s motto is to see people’s lives changing hence we came forth to assist members of the co-operative because they were using natural resources to earn a living and ensure cultural heritage thrives,” he added.

Kgosi Moalosi appreciated that members of the co-operative were committed to their work and soldiered on even during difficult times.

Meanwhile, the company has secured a plot in Shorobe to start a campsite and Kgosi Moalosi explained that they were working on changing land use.  BOPA
