Ghanzi Magistrate, Ms Keneilwe Thebeetsile has on October 3 ordered that 49-year-old, Xixhe Spanvane be remanded in custody while investigations into a murder incident continue.

Spanvane, who is a farm worker, was arrested on October 1 after allegedly battering to death 47-year-old Nxaosa Bese at Hackette farms (Grootlaagte farms). Investigating officer, detective constable Ketsweletse Keekae told the court that the incident occurred over the past weekend and therefore investigations were still at infant stage.

Mr Keekae also told the court that two knobkerries suspected to have been used in the crime had been recovered. The court also heard that the accused allegedly tried to take his life following the alleged crime and was therefore a threat to himself given that he had tried more than three times to commit suicide and was still in shock.

On one hand, the investigating officer further told the court that they were yet to record a statement from the farm manager as well as book for post mortem. 

Meanwhile, Spanvane will mention again on October 17. ENDS
