Chobe land board aims to eradicate waiting lists
27 Sep 2022
Chobe Land Board continues to allocate plots in the district in an endeavour to reach its 5 269 contribution to the national target of 100 000 plots.
Land board chairperson, Mr Johane Chenjekwa told a press conference that part of the plan was to eradicate waiting lists in all villages where plots were available. He said this week the board intended to allocate 350 plots to all the people who were on the waiting list at Satau.
He however, said while the land board anticipated to attain 100 per cent allocation, experience from previous allocations in other villages had shown that during allocation half of the invited people turned down the offer due to preference of other areas.
On the plot registration exercise for the Secure Land Title (STL), Mr Chenjekwa said the Chobe Land Board had registered only 32.7 per cent of the 18 452 prospective registrations.
He said registration was on-going until October 20 and appealed to Batswana to register their plots as STLs were prerequisite for the improvement of their socio-economic livelihoods.
He further said while the national target of the issuance of the STL was 496 000 this financial year, Chobe Land Board target was 6 269.
Mr Chenjekwa said the land board intended to be aggressive with the issuance of STLs depending entirely on how people responded to the registration exercise.
He said for the plots that would be allocated the registration would be done on the same day to avoid inconveniencing owners having to come back to the land board again for the exercise. For his part the acting land board secretary, Mr David Setimela encouraged Batswana to register their plots at any land board around the country.
Principal land surveyor, Mr Theetso Masilomangwe said in Chobe all villages except Lesoma, Mabele, Pandamatenga and Kazungula had enough plots to clear the waiting lists. ENDS
