Kgosi Barontshi Kegapetswe of Letlhakane has condemned men who father children and abandon them to be solely raised by mothers.
Kgosi Kegapetswe, who was speaking during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Botswana Council of Churches (BCC) triennial general elective assembly in Letlhakane on Thursday September 22, said the church was not spared as some irresponsible members also were involved in such acts.
He implored BCC leadership and members to come up with a strategy to rid the church of such ills, which he said should be condemned.
On other issues, Kgosi Kegapetswe implored the church to address the issue of factionalism as animosity within congregations rendered the society divided and helpless.
For his part, Boteti East MP and Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe expressed concern that drugs and alcohol abuse had become rife in Boteti.
Mr Lelatisitswe pleaded with the church leadership to intervene.
Meanwhile, Bishop Mothusi Letlhage of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Botswana was elected the BCC president while Reverend Mosweu Simane of United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) emerged the first vice president.
Reverend Copper Sekate of Dutch Reformed Church was elected the second vice president while Bishop Michael Raseokamo of Prisidia Faith Mission became the fourth vice president.
Ms Tebogo Moloi is the new vice president - gender and Mr Tswelelang Maswabi is the vice president - youth.
