Service kick-starts Botswana Day festivities

19 Sep 2022

As per tradition, a combined church service was held in Gaborone Sunday to herald independence day celebrations.

This year’s service was graced by Acting President Dr Kefentse Muzwinila accompanied by Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Mr Tumiso Rakgari, MPs and senior government officials.

Organised by the Gaborone Ministers Fraternal  in collaboration with the ministry, the televised service was held at Limkokwing Hall of Fame with the aim of reviving the nation’s hope in the aftermath of COVID-19.

Speaking to this year’s theme,   Reviving hope after COVID-19 and beyond,  religious leaders from various denominations endeavoured to encourage the nation through prayers and messages.

Delivering  the sermon of the day, UCCSA’s Reverend Bonolo Burns observed that Batswana were going into this  year's independence day celebrations still reeling from the effects of COVID-19.

The pandemic’s impact had been felt in government circles, families, communities and churches, she said adding that spiritual leaders had also suffered a great deal.

Reverend Burns urged the nation to remain hopeful and keep believing in God as only he could see people through this world’s troubles and challenges.

Quoting scripture, she said; “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”.

For his part, Pastor Chuchuchu Nchunga, who is also Gaborone Ministers Fraternal deputy secretary, applauded the ministry’s efforts of uniting churches every year.

It was a way of uniting the nation in Christ, he said.

Pastor Nchunga urged churches to continue preaching messages that would revive hope in their congregations. BOPA
