A 47-year old man of Moranyane ward in Kanye was on September 13, arraigned before Kanye Magistrate Keneilwe Ntwayapelo on a single count of murder.

The facts of the matter are that Otlaadisa Ntwayakgosi unlawfully killed Dipuo Seboko at Dinaledi ward in Kanye on September 10.

The prosecutor, Sub-inspector Mabutho Mabutho told the court that investigations into the matter were still fresh, requesting for a further 14-days remand of the accused.

“I request that the accused be remanded in custody for 14 days because the investigating officer has not yet visited the crime scene and is yet to record witness statements. Therefore, looking at the seriousness of the matter, I request that he be remanded until the investigating officer is available to update the court,” he pleaded.

Even though he argued that the investigating officer had to go to Gaborone for post-mortem of the same body, the magistrate advised that the application for remand required the presence of the investigating officer or his affidavit. 

He said the court could not grant the 14-day remand since the application was not properly submitted.

“The court cannot grant the maximum 14 days that you are requesting since the application is not done properly with the investigating officer as the witness,” he said.

The court ordered that the accused person, who is conducting his own defence be remanded until September 15, on which date the investigating officer is expected to update the court. Ends
