Police in Maun have discovered a burnt human body suspected to be of a 12-year-old girl who went missing last week.

In an interview, Maun Police station Commander Superintendent Chenamo Orateng said a 12-year-old girl from Sedie in Maun was reported missing on September 5 by her mother.

He highlighted that in her statement, the mother stated that the child had gone to sleep the previous night with her 20-year-old brother with whom she shared a room.

Supt Orateng stated that upon questioning, the brother confessed to have murdered and buried his sister. He said the brother led the police to the scene where he buried the body.

The station commander said they discovered a charred body resembling a human being.

Supt Orateng said the body was taken for forensic testing to confirm if it could be the young girl’s, adding that the tests were still ongoing.

Moreover, he stated that they did not know what could have transpired between the siblings, which could had led to such a brutal act.

He said the accused appeared in court on Friday and was currently in police custody awaiting trial. Ends
