Omaweneno-Tsabong road undergoes maintenance
12 Sep 2022
Five small scale construction companies are on site patching potholes along the 37km Omaweneno-Tsabong road.
One of the companies, Mochudi Steel Works’ site agent, Mr Itshepeng Powane said in an interview that they were given 14 days to patch potholes.
He said the tender was distributed among five companies to cover the road stretch at different points.
The project, he said, was worth P80 000 to cover labour costs only with the Department of Roads providing material.
Meanwhile, he said, the company had employed seven people; five men and two women.
Furthermore, Mr Powane divulged that there were other higher grade companies on site responsible for maintaining road shoulders and other resealing components.
This development came after Kgalagadi District Council chairperson, Mr Hendrick Jacobs’ December 2021 announcement that P160 million had been approved to address the road infrastructure situation in the 2021/2022 financial year.
He said most roads in the district were in a bad state, thus making them risky for motorists.
Mr Jacobs had said the resealing and road marking of Omaweneno-Tsabong road project was scheduled to be implemented during the 2021/2022 financial year at a total approved budget of P32.5 million.
The project included pothole patching, treatment by slurry and resealing of 37km road stretch and the works were scheduled to be completed within 12 months.
He had said other roads earmarked for developments were Werda/Makopong, Tsabong/Middlepits, Tsabong/McCarthy’s Rust, which would be resealed and marked, while the road between Mmathethe, Bray and Werda would be constructed from scratch and the Kang/Hukuntsi would be fog sprayed and marked. Ends
