11 Sep 2022

Rakops Junior Secondary School management has been implored to come up with strategies that would enhance performance.

The advise came from the Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, during a tour of the school on Thursday.

He encouraged teachers to benchmark from other schools such as Orapa Junior Secondary School.

He said commitment from teachers was important for the school to perform better.

Mr Tsogwane, also Boteti West MP, talked about the need to curb truancy among young teachers.

A school, he added, was a micro-community within a community and ‘whatever the school does as a community would reflect in the community within which it exists.’

Mr Tsogwane said mindset change should be aligned to teaching and learning processes.

For her part, school head, Ms Mositi Modise, expressed a concern regarding truancy among teachers, especially the young ones. She also complained about learners’ theft at the hostels.

She said some went as far as stealing earthing cables.

Another challenge, she said, was classroom shortage, adding the 31-stream school was operating with 14 classrooms.

The school has an enrolled 818 learners.

Regional director-operations, Mr Solly Mooketsi, said it was the responsibility of the school management to address issues of indiscipline. He said management should find ways of moulding young teachers into responsible individuals.

Mr Mooketsi stated that Rakops JSS was maintained in 2014/15 and had been recommended for expansion. Ends
