Digitisation critical to teaching learning- VP

11 Sep 2022

The decision by government to distribute laptops in schools should be embraced with mindset change to help learners  achieve quality education and benefit from opportunities offered by digitization.

Speaking during a visit to Xere and Mmadikola primary schools in Boteti, Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane said this also required schools to align with government’s Reset Agenda to bring learners on board.

He emphasised that the culture of digitisation should start in schools as technology played a role in enhancing the teaching and learning process.

He said the use of internet services was crucial in the teaching process through research, the reason why government was steadfast in fast-tracking connectivity.

“Government has started to distribute laptops and tablets to drive digitisation and we are committed to ensuring access to internet connectivity in all schools through smartBots,” he said.

Mr Tsogwane said the aim was to achieve inclusiveness by ensuring equality between learners in rural areas and those in urban areas.

“The learning and teaching environment should be conducive for learning to take place.

Reception class as a foundation to education should be compliant to support and encourage learners,” he said.

Mr Tsogwane further implored teachers to devise initiatives on how they could improve performance and advised being based in Xere, it was important for teachers to understand and adapt to the Sarwa culture so as to know how they should treat learners.

The school he said was in a settlement, an area treated as an affirmative action area,  noting that their role, was to make changes in the lives of learners in Xere through consistent updates of learners’ performance with parents.

The regional director operative Mr Solly Mooketsi said the aim was to introduce e-learning through e-textbooks in an effort to integrate Information and Communications Technology into the teaching and learning process. ends
