The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane says education and health play a critical role in developmental issues.

Mr Tsogwane said this on Tuesday during a tour of clinics and schools in Boteti, whose aim was to appreciate resources and services available in schools. He indicated that education was a social development and a foundation for a country’s development.

He stated that schools were micro-communities within a communities. 

He called for efficient food supply in schools, adding that the food supplied should also be in good condition.

The vice president called for cooperation between parents and teachers for schools to succeed.

Mr Tsogwane further called for maintenance of buildings as it was crucial in elongating their lifespan.

He commended Mokobaxane Clinic for good service delivery despite the condition of the premises, saying statistics provided proved that there was case control of such diseases as malaria and diarrhoea as Boteti was a Malaria area.

Mr Tsogwane said the establishment of a clinic at Mopipi would reduce congestion at Mokobaxane Clinic.

Meanwhile, he said government had taken a decision to phase out health posts, stating that though the structure maybe that of a health post, services provided should be at the standard of a clinic.

Mokobaxane Primary School head, Ms Ontlametse Tape, had earlier requested major maintenance of classrooms and teachers’ houses, saying classroom and kitchen ceilings were dilapidated.

She also decried shortage of classrooms at the school, saying it operated with 19 classrooms instead of the required 24.

In response, senior assistant council secretary, Mr Christopher Maramba said the assessment for all schools that needed major maintenance had been done, while those that needed cyclic maintenance had been captured under National Development Plan 12.

Mr Maramba said maintenance for all Boteti schools would be done in the next financial year, provided the budget was approved.

He also revealed that the council had partnered with Boteti Brigade to assist with refurbishment of furniture. ends
