Magope Disana water supply project soon

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has announced the proposed Magope/Disana water supply scheme project aimed to ease water supply challenges in the area.
WUC Design engineer Mr Robert Modise made this announcement over the weekend during a Kgotla meeting addressed by area MP, Mr Lefoko Moagi.
Mr Modise said pipeline designs for the project and tender documents were completed and were awaiting to float the tender to invite interested parties to bid by October this year.
He said the project was divided into two works, namely phase one which entailed construction of a 200mm diameter long pumping pipeline to convey water to the 500 000 litres elevated tank.
He said construction period of pumping pipeline was six months that was December 2022 to June 2023, while construction of the second phase, the gravity pipeline was eight months, May to December 2023.
Mr Modise said details of phase one works were to be done under NDP 11 and would spill into NDP 12 while phase 2 would be implemented under NDP 12.
He said there would be construction of a booster pump station to convey water to the proposed 500m cubic elevated tank.
For his part, Mr Moagi applauded the corporation for heeding the call to alleviate the water supply in Magope/ Disana.
He encouraged project supervisors to be on the ground as soon as works on the project started.
He reassured residents that their plight would soon be over.
He said they should be encouraged by the set timelines of the project.
Residents took turns to express satisfaction and complaints about the state of affairs in their area.
Daniel Mmekwane pleaded with MP Moagi t ask WUC not to be selective in their water supply scheme.
He asked the corporation to implement the project timely to avoid cost overruns.
Mr Mmekwane asked government to consider solar power to benefit Batswana while Mr Otukile Lekoti asked the corporation to make timely consultations with the community to reassure them that the project would take off successfully.
Ms Bennah Mmesi decried unfulfilled promises from WUC as they had been promised sufficient supply by the corporation in the past.
Area councillor Ms Marea Motshwaedi applauded the proposed water supply scheme project and told residents that the corporation consulted the sub council about the project three weeks ago before arranging a meeting to brief the community. Ends
