BMCs ECCO beef returns to shelves
05 Sep 2022
ECCO corned beef and other corned products are back on shelves after some months of absence.
Briefing the media at the re-launch of the product in Gaborone recently, Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) chief operations officer, Mr Brian Dioka said some products had been off the market since December 2021 on suspected contamination.
Mr Dioka said BMC, which recalled the products, had since addressed and complied with all regulatory concerns.
He said they took advantage of this period to effect feedback from the market as part of their product improvement.
Mr Dioka noted that BMC intended to retain the products name ECCO, given its export appeal as well as historic relevance.
The re-launch, he said, re-introduced ECCO corned beef and corned meats, with a changed look and feel just to be relevant to global labelling requirements.
Mr Dioka further explained that the products, which would soon be on the shelves, showed the 100 per cent beef and 65 per cent meat content in its product lines, compared to mostly available products that were 45 per cent meat-content.
He confirmed that all the products were improved with the high nutritional value that supported healthy eating, reduced salt and they were also hygienically produced.
Mr Dioka further explained that the ECCO products distinguished themselves by organic-ness as they were sourced from raw material (cattle) that had neither hormones nor growth-promoters.ENDS
