Make it a tripartite -President Masisi

Kazungula Bridge co-owners, Botswana and Zambia, are anxious for Zimbabwe to join the project as  originally planned.

 Addressing the media at the end of his three-day state visit to Zimbabwe Saturday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said the bridge’s original design had to altered due to Zimbabwe’s absence. 

Zimbabwe, he explained  would have to pay its                                                                                                                                              share in the US$259.3 million project which included border facilities in Botswana and Zambia.

For his part, President Dr Emerson Mnangagwa admitted that the project originally had three parties but Zimbabwe pulled out. He assured his audience that Zimbabwe was prepared to work with the other two countries.

Dr Mnangagwa said he had proposed that they work out a package for Zimbabwe.Construction of the bridge commenced in 2014 and was completed six years later.

 It has reportedly improved trade in the SADC region and Africa significantly. ends
