Ministry restricts movement of animals
04 Sep 2022
The Ministry of Agriculture has restricted movement of cloven hoof animals within, into and out of zones 6a, 6b, 3c-Maitengwe and zone 7.
A press release from the ministry says this follows confirmation of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in Butale village and surrounding villages within zone 6b in the North East District.
Restricted animals include cattle, sheep, goats, pigs as well as game and their fresh products.
The release says cloven hoof animals in other zones may, however, be moved with a permit only for direct slaughter at licensed abattoirs and slaughter slabs.
It also says export of cloven hoof animals and their fresh products remains suspended.
Further, it says suspension of meat and other fresh animal products movement is lifted, except in zones 6a, 6b, 3c-Maitengwe and zone 7.
Farmers are therefore requested to be vigilant and report any signs of lameness and excessive salivation in cloven hoof livestock and game to the nearest veterinary office. Ends
