Absa Bank Botswana remains deeply committed to playing a meaningful role in the community, through investing in youth empowerment, says its Managing Director, Ms Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane
“At Absa Bank Botswana we have made talent development a priority, and we continue to partner with top experts and organisations to provide our talent with the resources they need to develop their leadership skills and drive societal impact and sustainability,” Ms Pheko-Moshagane said.
Speaking at the sending off ceremony for four young Batswana to the One Young World Summit to be held in England from September 5 -9, she said Absa believed in investing in young people and exposing them to the very best the world has to offer.
She said the sponsorship, was thus, a testament to the bank’s commitment to youth empowerment.
Ms Pheko-Moshagane said the summit brought together the brightest young talent from a number of countries and sectors working to accelerate social impact with the aim of improving quality of life for all.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, we are motivated by our purpose: to assist people in achieving their goals and driving sustainable development,” she said.
Being awarded the prestigious ‘Top Employer Award’ demonstrated Absa Botswana’s vested interest in ensuring that ‘our people are exposed and contribute to global conversations’.
She said they believed that their partnership with One Young World would bring about viable and inclusive outcomes.
Ms Pheko-Moshagane said Absa recognised and believed that young people were the greatest assets and the bank remained dedicated to looking for purposeful engagements and practices that supported and created a productive environment for young people to drive key sustainable impact in the community.
She said youth empowerment was a responsibility the bank took very seriously as it understood that the long-term sustainability of any community was dependent on the combined efforts of all.
She noted that Absa, through various programmes, such as the Festus Mogae scholarship fund, ReadytoWork, the Youth Hub and incubation programme continued to work towards making a positive impact in the community.
“Our efforts in this regard are focused on four pillars namely: financial inclusion, education and skills development, environmental sustainability and promoting a just society,” she added.
One Young World collaborates with more than 190 international companies, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), and academic institutions. This year, the opportunity was extended to 20 colleagues across the continent, with four selected from Botswana being Kenanao Phele, Omphile Nkokou, Tlotlo Motlamme, and Keaobaka Bome. BOPA
