Public officers have been urged to use the resources availed to them to create a safer, clean and welcoming environment for their customers.

Addressing District Development Committee members in Gaborone yesterday, Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP) Ms Emmah Peloetletse said unpalatable surroundings and offices were a constant source of complaint for customers.

She said Batswana expected a warm environment in public offices and to be treated with respect.

Another source of complaint, she said, was failure by public officers to respond to queries on time.

Ms Peloetletse also spoke against wastage and corruption.

PSP said the public service had been capacitated to ensure efficacy in service delivery.

She encouraged officers to maintain professionalism and adhere to service standards that had been set for the different services.

The officers were advised to apply the Ten Point Agenda and work within the Public Service Charter principles in order to serve diligently and efficiently.

Ms Peloetletse said a good public servant should be transparent, have regard for public interest, neutral and accountable to the public as per the charter’s principles.

PSP also apprised the DDC members on policy pronouncements aimed at advancing the government development agenda and highlighted priority number five of the Reset Agenda, mindset change.

She told her audience that change must start with them before they could cascade it to others.

Public servants should strive to be better persons of themselves, she said. ENDS
