Price increase affects food supply in schools

The recent price increase on food commodities countrywide has negatively affected supply of food especially in primary schools.
Speaking during Boteti sub-council session recently, the sub-council chairman, Mr Molemi Galeragwe said government had however reduced prices of some food commodities to be vat free to cushion citizens against inflation.
He stated that during the quarter under review, tender value awarded from April 2022 to July this year amounted to P53.7 million (P53 787 264.13.)
He indicated that a total of P37.3 mil1ion out of P53.7 million had been awarded to local companies, which translated to 69 per cent, whilst tender value awarded to citizen owned companies amounted to P50.5 million translating to 94 per cent.
Simlarly tender value awarded to vulnerable groups scored P29.9 million which translated to 56 per cent, Mr Galeragwe stated.
In addition he noted that P16.5 million out of P53.7 million being 30 per cent, had been awarded to youth whilst P13.3 million out of P53.7 million which was 24 per cent had been awarded to women. ends
