Itsoseng brick moulding diversifies

28 Aug 2022

Itsoseng Brick Moulding, a poverty eradication project started by Phitshane Molopo residents in 2018, now offers varied bricks sizes, an endeavour to satisfy customer demands.

The team which comprises eight women and four men recently sourced a new machine that will produce six, four and a half inch  stock bricks.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of an event to demonstrate the new machine, project chairperson, Mr Keamogetse Mosweu said the machine would help meet the demand.

He said they lost potential clients in the past because they could only provide the standard brick which they started with four years ago.

"We have in the past had customers coming to enquire about other types of bricks but we could not provide because we had no mould for such," said Mr Mosweu.

He said the new machine that used electricity was a good investment that would speed up production while at the same time reducing manual labour which was a disadvantage considering that the group comprised mostly of elderly members.

Though still under the supervision of the local council, the project is reportedly performing well with more than P500 000 in its coffers.

Mr Mosweu appreciated support from government departments and said without them, they could have been badly affected by COVID-19.

He was hopeful that they would acquire a truck they would use for deliveries and collecting raw materials. ends
