Ministry suspends permits for live cattle export to SA
18 Aug 2022
The Department of Veterinary Services has suspended issuing of export permits for live cattle to South Africa with immediate effect.
A press release from the veterinary services department says the suspension therefore means that permits that have already been issued are invalid.
The release also explains that such a decision was arrived at after the South African government imposed a cattle movement standstill and suspended importation of cattle into the country in order to control Foot and Mouth Disease.
However, farmers and stakeholders are advised that live cattle export dispensation has not been suspended and applications can still be made to the Ministry of Agriculture for export to other countries accepting imports of live cattle from Botswana. ENDS
