16 Aug 2022
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has promised to avail, to the defence team, the CCTV footage in which a G4S security cash-in -transit vehicle was robbed of about P2.3 million at gun point last October.
State prosecutor, Mr Farayi Mahwite told Broadhust Magistrate Court during the case management conference on Monday that the CCTV footage, which was not immediately availed to the court, was part of the state evidence, hence it was to be availed to the defence team for viewing on Monday.
The CCTV footage is one of the over 30 exhibits presented for inspection by the state against Mothusi Matomela, Thapelo Lekobe, Mzwandile Mazibuko and Ntholephi Elliot Ntshalintshali.
The accused persons are charged with stealing about P2.3 million from a G4S Security cash-in-transit vehicle at Turn Rite Mall last year.
They face charges of armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The exhibits include, among others; a Toyota Fortuner that was allegedly used in the robbery, type 54 pistol and its magazine, two AK47s and their magazines and about P2.3 million in cash obtained from the accused.
Mr Mahwite said arrangements had been agreed by both teams for the money to be counted at an appropriate time, with proper facilities such as money counting machines, during the inspection of the exhibits by the court.
He further told the court that the money, which belonged to FNB Botswana, was still kept in the G4S bags.
The first and second accused persons, Matomela and Lekobe are represented by Mr Olehile Manchwe, while the third and fourth accused persons, Mazibuko and Ntshalintshali are represented by Mr Nkosana Ngwenya. The case, which had been scheduled for trial yesterday, tomorrow and Friday, is before magistrate Goabaone Rammapadi-Lesedi. ends
