Police officer from a neighbouring country arraigned for drunken driving

A 37-old male police officer from a neighbouring country appeared before Ghanzi magistrate court on Monday on two counts of drunken driving and dangerous driving.
Ghanzi police station commander, Superintendent Modiro Lekone confirmed in an interview that the police officer- rank of sergeant was arrested on Saturday.
He said the accused was driving a motor vehicle while alcohol content in his breath was 0.88/100 ml, exceeding the permissible limit of 0.22/100 ml.
On the second count, Spt Lekone said the same police officer was found skidding a vehicle near Town bar in Ghanzi.
The accused person will appear again on November 22.
Regarding the statistics of traffic offences, Supt Lekone said they registered a total of 16 cases of drunken driving, 54 cases of driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence and two cases of careless or dangerous driving during a period of July 25 to 31.
Other offences registered during the same period, he said, are one rape, three threat to kill, one case of stealing from motor vehicle in which it is alleged that P33 000 was stolen and another case of breaking into motor vehicle in which goods were stolen.
Five cases of possession of dagga, four assault occasioning actual bodily harm cases, six common nuisance cases, nine assault common cases, one case of stealing from dwelling house, one unlawful wounding and three theft common cases, he said were also registered.
Further, he said there was one case of unlawful stay in Botswana, two cases of drinking liquor in prohibited area, one case of stealing stock and two cases of operating camp site without licence. Ends
