Tatitown police are investigating an incident in which a 42-year-old woman of Rakops died due to suspected food poisoning on Saturday.

Station commander, Superintendent Boipuso Baatweng, confirmed the incident on Monday saying police received a call from Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital informing them of the case.

He said the deceased was reported to have been with three companions, two men and another woman at a local bar on Saturday night where they shared a meal.

“One of the two men had brought the plate and they all ate from it before he started feeling sick and was taken home,” said Supt Baatweng.

After taking him home, the trio decided to continue with their leisure, but later started feeling sick with symptoms similar to that of their friend, said Supt Baatweng.

He said they were reportedly rushed to Area W Clinic to seek medical attention.

“While at the clinic they received a call informing them about the deteriorating state of the friend they had previously taken home and was already admitted at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital,” said Supt Baatweng.

He said all were admitted at the hospital and unfortunately the deceased woman could not make it through.

He said the other woman was later discharged while the two men were still hospitalised, but in stable condition.

In another case, Supt Baatweng said a 16-year-old boy was found hanging from a tree in his home village of Mathangwane on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was allegedly engaged in an argument with another pupil and was later confronted by his parents. Investigations continue in both cases. BOPA
