Entrepreneurship remains an important driver of job creation , economic growth and also key  in the development of a vibrant formal small and medium sized business sector.

 Minister of Entrepreneurship, Mr Karabo Gare said this at the ministry’s inaugaral Strategic Development Plan for the period 2022 – 2025  retreat in Mahalapye recently.

 He said government had put in place policy initiayives that promoted entrepreneurship.

  This, he said placed his ministry as a critical player in contributing  to the collective aspiration and vision by ensuring that it specifically contributes to mindset change, value chain development and economic inclusion.

   Regarding the ministry’s strategic plan, Mr Gare said it called for convergence of ideas to deliver onto this common vision and it should bind everyone and allow everyone to move forward collectively and successfully as a ministry.

“A Strategic Plan allows us to lay down the Ministry’s goals and strategies for the next three-years, based-on a sound evidence-based analysis of our internal and external environment and trends,” stated Minister Gare.

He urged participants to openly deliberate issues and  not lose sight of the most important vision of growing entrepreneurship in a sustainable manner, to ensure that it contributed effectively to the key areas outlined.

Permanent secretary, Mr Joel Ramaphoi said entrepreneurship ministry was a reflective of the reset process, a pathway to change.     He said the outcome of the past policy interventions raised a critical question of why they failed to yield substantive changes to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) development.

Mr Rmaphoi said they would work within three pillars being strategic approach, strategic dynamism and strategic implementation.

Special projects, Mr Ronnie Phuthego when presenting the strategy framework said the mandate of the ministry was to provide leadership and overall policy direction, strategy and standards on business development.

He said the proposed vision statement sought to advance a prosperous and knowledge based society through innovation, entrepreneurship and business development mechanisms.  ENDS
